AGA Announces 2008 Player of the Year

Talbert Griffin is the 2008 Alabama Golf Association Player of the Year

Player Points are final and the Alabama Golf Association is pleased to recognize Talbert Griffin as the 2008 Player of the Year.
Griffin, 48, of Birmingham, earned Player of the Year honors with 845 Player Points. Starting the 2008 Season with a Top 16 finish in the State Four-Ball Championship, partnering with Player of the Year Runner-up Woodie Eubanks, he followed up with a victory in the Grayson Valley Invitational and 2nd place finishes at the Commodoreメs Cup and Woodward Invitational.

Griffin finished the summer out with a runner up finish in the State Match Play Championship, a 5th place finish in the State Club Team Championship, and clinched the Player of the Year with a par putt on the last hole of the State Mid-Amateur Championship and an exciting 2nd place finish.

Other results had Samford University golf coach Woodie Eubanks finishing 2nd after winning the State Mid-Amateur Championship, Auburn Golfer Glenn Northcutt 3rd with a victory in the State Match Play Championship, former Player of the Year Will Swift 4th, and UAB golfer Zack Sucher rounding out the top five.

The AGA will recognize Talbert Griffin at the 2009 Annual Meeting along with all of our State Champions during the 2008 season.

Organized in 1915, the Alabama Golf Association is a not-for-profit organization that governs amateur golf in the state of Alabama. In addition to conducting eight state championships for amateur golfers in Alabama, the AGA conducts national qualifiers for USGA events, the state boys' and girls' high school championships, intercollegiate events hosted by Alabama, UAB, and the Southeastern Conference Men's Golf Championship. The AGA also manages the affairs of the Southern Golf Association including the Southern Amateur Championship, Southern Junior Championship, and the Southern International Four-Ball Championship. The AGA also provids the USGAメs GHIN Handicap system to all its member clubs, monitors the USGA Handicap System in Alabama, and performs course ratings throughout the state.
